Uniting the Neighborhoods of Sandy Springs

Welcome

Sandy Springs, Georgia is a great place to live, work, and play.  The Sandy Springs Council of Neighborhoods (SSCN) is a volunteer group of Home Owner Association Officers (HOAs) who pool our knowledge of local regulations, policies and key contacts.  We work with elected officials, citizens, community organizations and businesses to keep Sandy Springs' neighborhoods strong and vibrant.

Abernathy Park Update

Council member Chip Collins recently held a Town Hall meeting with the public, GDOT, City of Sandy Springs Public Works and Parks and Recreation personnel to clarify the status of Abernathy Linear Greenway Park. GDOT informed the group that the projected completion date for the widening of Johnson Ferry Road would be pushed back to December 2012 instead of end of 2011 due to construction delays, GDOT and Utility workforce being redeployed to areas in the north east affected by foul weather and weather issues in general. There were many citizens who voiced concern regarding the intersection at Brandon Mill Road and Johnson Ferry Road being a much higher elevation than planned/anticipated and the subsequent line-of-sight problems. The officials present assured the public that all concerns would be considered in future work.

The park plan was a collaborative effort with city governance, consultant PBS&J and the Neighborhood Steering Committee participating. The plan calls for plazas, patios, gardens, lighted trails, restrooms, playgrounds, parking, hardscaping and landscaping. A new concept called "Play Art" will be installed to promote interaction with the public and art in the park. There will be features for both active and passive recreation for children and adults. Phase II is currently underway and is financed with $500,000.00 of local funding allocated by the CIP fiscal year 2011 budget.
