Welcome
Sandy Springs, Georgia is
a great place to live, work, and play. The Sandy Springs Council of
Neighborhoods (SSCN) is a volunteer group of Home Owner Association Officers (HOAs)
who pool our knowledge of local regulations, policies and key contacts. We work with elected officials, citizens, community
organizations and businesses to keep Sandy Springs' neighborhoods strong and
vibrant.
Hammond Park Improvements?
While much attention has been paid to our City's decisions regarding comprehensive plans, zonings, roads and sidewalks; one of our parks is now the focus. The 13 acre Hammond Park is undergoing a major community input campaign for its proposed redevelopment and Wednesday night (11/12) there is a community meeting to discuss a proposed aquatic facility for the site. The meeting will be held at Hammond Park's gym in the multi-purpose room at 7 PM. This meeting should be the first step in determining the community's desire on how an aquatic facility might be funded and operated. Some of the ideas being discussed include a plan to create a public-private partnership for the aquatic center similar to how Morgan Falls Park operates the ballfields. There has also been some concern about the density of these plans and the amount of green space required.
The City encourages your input into what types of facilities are needed at the park. Currently the plans call for one or two playgrounds, the aquatics park which could serve local high school swim teams, a versatile recreational facility for the ongoing gymnastics program, a multiuse trail system, a lawn and splash pad for hot summer days as well as maintaining the basketball and tennis courts. Take a look at the plans and let your voice be heard.

Epstein School Update
The Epstein School filed their expansion project application in June 2008, and in August requested a deferral. Subsequently, the City Planning Department supported the deferral requested by Epstein citing numerous omissions and other problems with the applicant's proposed plan. Upon Planning Commission review, several of its members were critical of the school's continuing impact on the neighborhood from its existing traffic. They suggested that the school's unwillingness to have addressed this issue much earlier was not good for neighborhood cooperation. At the September City Council Meeting the school was granted its requested 120 day deferral and directed to work with the neighborhoods to come up with a plan that would be acceptable to all parties. Since then there has been one meeting with the planning staff, neighborhood leaders and representatives from the school. Deadlines were set for new plans and complete documentation to be submitted by the petitioner to the City Planning Department. These deadlines were not met and the City has canceled subsequent meetings until all documentation has been received. The neighborhoods are waiting patiently for the school to comply with the City's requests.
