School Board District 3  --  Gail Dean

In July 2000, Gail Dean was elected to the District 3 Board position for a term running January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2004. In January of 2003, hers became the first district to represent both Sandy Springs and parts of East Point and Hapeville.

Ms. Dean's professional background includes serving as President of the Atlanta Homebuilders Association, Inner Atlanta Chapter, owning a real estate brokerage and two construction firms and consulting for financial institutions throughout the southeast. An active volunteer in Sandy Springs schools, she served on numerous reform and system-level committees, was PTA president and chaired the Local School Advisory and Sandy Springs legislative committees . She serves on the Board of Sandy Springs/North Fulton Clean and Beautiful, the Fulton County School Employees Charitable Fund, Fulton Education Foundation, Georgia Security Council, and Fulton Employees' Pension Board. She also represents her community on the Sandy Springs Council of Neighborhoods. She was recently appointed to the committee that reviews Special Charter Schools for the Georgia Board of Education.

Julia Bernath assumed the District 7 Board position on January 1, 2000, when she was appointed by the Board of Education to fill an unexpired term. In November 2000, she won election to the remaining two years of the term, and was re-elected to a four year term in the fall of 2002. Her term expires December 31, 2006. Mrs. Bernath represents the Board on the Fulton Education Foundation and as Vice Chair of the Fulton School Employees' Pension Board. She is the 5th District Director for the Georgia School Boards Association Government (GSBA) and has also served on GSBA's Government Operations Committee and as Fulton County Legislative Liaison. At the state level, Mrs. Bernath has served on the Teacher Quality Assessment Council of the P-16 Committee and the Governor's Education Review Study Committee. A former PTA President and Local School Advisory Committee Chair, she also served on the 1995 Sandy Springs Area Redistricting Task Force.
